Here at Jubilee vet centre we have a keen interest in orthopaedics.
Lameness work ups
We do many lameness workups after clinical examinations using digital xrays and ct imaging. Very many of these are as a result of
acute strains and traumas which readily respond to standard pain relieving drugs and antibiotics only for bites and puncture wounds.
For longer term problems like developmental joint disease, ligament/tendon disruption and arthritis we have many modalities to treat these conditions from modern pain killing drugs, new monoclonal antibody injection for pain relief, joint supplement injections and food supplements and nurse led clinics for K Laser therapy. We have also started to do some stem cell injections into joints to try and rejuvinate them.
Trauma
We also have experience with trauma and are able to fix broken longbones with intramedullary pins, plates and external fixators. We can replace and secure disclocated joints (Hips and elbows) with prosthetic ligaments.
This was a farm dog with a proximal fracture to the tibia and fibula. It was repaired with an intramedullary pin and an external fixator bar. After 6 weeks, the dog was sedated again, xrays confirmed adequate healing. the external fixator bars were removed and the intramedullary pin was left in situ. The dog recovered well.
Fractured radius and ulna in a collie
Radius and ulna fractured with a surgical plate and screws. This plate was left in, the dog recovered well after surgery.
Surgery
Our surgical procedures are performed in our dedicated operating theatres by our skilled veterinary surgeons. Each patient is closely monitored by our qualified veterinary nurses throughout the entire procedure to ensure the anaesthetic is as safe as possible.
Further qualifications
Our vets and nurses are committed to updating their skills and keeping up to date.
Gareth Torney and Elaine Herron have undertaken further postgraduate studies on top of their veterinary degrees and have attained the E.S.V.P.S Certificates in Small animal Surgery and Medicine respectively.
Dental Work
Many pets suffer dental problems like bad breath, periodontal disease and gingivitis. We have a dedicated dental room with a specialised ultrasonic scaler to provide services like routine scale and polish to extractions.
Laboratory
We have an in house laboratory with a biochemistry and haematology machine and microscope. In most cases we can give same day blood results.
X-ray and Scanning and Endoscopy
We have a state of the art digital x-ray machine and ultrasound scanner. We also have an endoscope so we can perform minimally invasive procedures, like gut biopsies and some foreign body retrievals.
